Change is good
A post I've thought long about: In 2024, I bought out my business partner after interesting journey - but change can be good.
Leaving was daunting—handling full responsibility, legal work, and redefining Manor Made. With friends’ help, I borrowed a kitchen twice weekly, shifting the business fully from Boscundle Manor to Carlyon Bay Beach, finally giving the beach the spotlight it deserved. Later, I bought a commercial kitchen and moved operations to Little Winnick, fundamentally changing the business and easing life.
People have been vital in this journey. In November 2024, my mother-in-law passed away and, in her final words, urged me to move on, build my business, and believe in myself. That was powerful. During my darkest moments, rarely mentioned people saw my broken self and helped me rebuild into a new; more confident version.
In the business, my values have always been about treating people like family. As I rebuilt, we found a strong team who believe in Manor Made, growing and thriving in the right environment.
Growth was daunting; I initially decline the opportunity of a third site. But with persistence and connection to the past, our third café will open in February 2026.
Staying true to ourselves—this year’s big beach events taught me a lot. The first attempt was tough and not really us. We made some money but struggled. The lesson: focus on what we do best and let others do their thing.
Confidence has grown—from low points to belief in myself, my team, and our work. It’s been emotional, but reflection shows that hurtful words aren’t always true. With the right people and place, we’re thriving, quirky, feisty, and fun. I still overthink, over worry and over plan, but I'm working on that!
Thank you to everyone who’s supported us through the changes.
